QwikResume Moved From DigitalOcean to AWS, With a Firewall in Front

A firewall in front, a CDN behind it, and faster pages for a global audience.

AWS WAF

In front of the site

CloudFront

And monitoring on a managed environment

The problem

QwikResume serves curated sample resumes, written by practising human-resources managers, to a high-volume consumer audience. The site ran on a single-provider hosting setup with limited protection against web attacks. Slow page loads hurt search ranking and the visitor's experience.

Before and after

Single-provider hosting

  • A single-provider hosting setup
  • Limited protection against web attacks
  • Slow page loads that hurt search ranking and the visitor's experience

On AWS, protected and cached

  • Migrated to AWS with a production-grade layout
  • A web application firewall in front of the site
  • CDN caching and optimised static assets
  • Monitoring and backups in place

What we built

  • Migration to AWS

From DigitalOcean to AWS, with VPC, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront and Route 53.

  • Web application firewall

AWS WAF in front of the site blocks common attack patterns.

  • Faster delivery

CDN caching and optimised delivery of static assets for faster page loads.

  • Operations

Monitoring and backups on a managed AWS environment.

How a visit is served

  1. Find the site

Route 53 directs a visitor's request to the site.

  2. Filter

The web application firewall in front of the site blocks common attack patterns.

  3. Serve fast

CloudFront serves cached pages and optimised static assets.

  4. Run the site

Behind them, the application runs on EC2 inside a VPC, with RDS and S3 for data and storage, monitored and backed up.
