Weiss Analytics: Hosting Cost Halved, Performance Fixed, Ready for Experian
The problem
Weiss Analytics publishes home-price indexing, forecasting and analytics, and is the only provider of house-specific repeat-sales indexes in the United States, hosting 90 million house-price indexes. Its APIs and consumer website run on Django.
Hosting on Azure cost too much, and both the application and the database were slow. Selling to large financial institutions raised a second problem: those buyers wanted a data-privacy solution that the existing platform could not provide, and the work to meet Experian's requirements had not been done.
What we built
We started with the hosting. BeyondScale moved the platform from Azure to dedicated hosting at the TierPoint data center and took over running the environment end to end. Total cost of ownership dropped by half.
On the application side we upgraded the Django codebase and now maintain the Django APIs and the consumer website, including the commerce, lead-generation, mapping and realtor modules. We also took over database operations and data-integrity management, and tuned the application and the queries behind the index datasets, which fixed the slow performance.
Then came the data-privacy work. We built the data-privacy solution and did the work to get Weiss ready for Experian. With both in place, Weiss could deliver its product to some of the largest investment banks in the world.
