Securing a Hybrid AWS and Citrix Environment for an MSP
The Challenge
SureTech is a mid-sized managed service provider with clients across accounting firms, law firms, healthcare, and e-commerce platforms. It manages sensitive client data and operates a hybrid IT environment that spans both AWS and Citrix infrastructure. Limited visibility into AWS workloads and potential misconfigurations left client data exposed to external threats, while Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops needed stronger controls to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. Threat detection and response were reactive, which risked delayed incident handling, and there was no strict schedule for maintenance or patch management, leaving systems outdated and open to known vulnerabilities.
Our Solution
BeyondScale deployed AWS Shield and GuardDuty for threat detection across the AWS footprint, configured IAM with MFA and granular permissions, and automated backups with AWS Backup. Access to Citrix Virtual Apps was secured with zero-trust network access (ZTNA), and CloudWatch was implemented to monitor the health of cloud resources.
On the endpoint and operations side, ConnectWise provides real-time monitoring and management, Webroot antivirus covers endpoint protection, and Windows, Citrix, and Active Directory systems are patched and updated on a regular cadence. IT Glue and Barracuda complete the toolset. SureTech receives monthly security health reports and vulnerability scans so the picture of its risk is always current.

Architecture
SureTech cloud security
AWS workloads sit behind Shield, GuardDuty, and MFA-backed IAM with automated backups, while CloudWatch and ConnectWise feed one monitoring view that also covers the Citrix apps and Webroot-protected endpoints.
